Free-from foods are no longer confined to the dusty top shelf in the supermarket. Thanks to the rise in veganism and health conscious trends, there is now an abundance of choice for those with food intolerances.
Below, we have rounded up five free-from brands you need to try this year (warning: they are delicious!).
Suitable for: dairy-free, gluten-free, wheat-free, egg-free
Olivia, founder of Livia’s kitchen, was diagnosed with a long list of severe food intolerances*. Olivia felt the impact of her free-from diet after she devastatingly realised there were not enough options out there for people with dietary issues.
Olivia switched her career from neuroscience straight to the kitchen and she launched a natural snacking range free from gluten, wheat, egg and dairy.
Her mouth-watering snacks have expanded rapidly, and you can now find her products in stores such as Holland and Barrett, Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Selfridges.
Recommendations: Raw Choc Brownie Nugglets and Chocolate Orange Million Squares – Yum!
Suitable for: soy-free, dairy-free
If you are struggling to find a plant-based milk that doesn’t curdle in tea or coffee, welcome to Oatly. This Swedish-based company uses ‘enzyme technology to copy nature’s own process to turn fibre rich oats into nutritional liquid food’.
Their unique packaging and brand are what sets them apart from other plant-based competitors and, the most important factor of all, the taste!
Customers at Ocado, Sainsbury’s and other supermarkets have been quick to review the Oatly range with most people quoting that it is the ‘best milk alternative out there’.
Recommendations: Oatly Organic Matcha Latte and Oat Drink Orange Mango
Suitable for: dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free
Ella was diagnosed with a condition called Postural Tachycardia Syndrome, as well as Mast Cell Activation Disorder.
According to her blog, she was ‘unable to control her heart rate and blood pressure properly, while also struggling with digestive issues, chronic fatigue and a whole host of other symptoms’.
Ella originally started a personal website aimed to help other people opting for a healthier life through a vegan diet, but Deliciously Ella has now grown into a global brand with five cookbooks, a recipe and yoga app and food products which are available in 6,000 stores.
Recommendations: Deliciously Ella Almond Butter & Salted Caramel Cups or Raspberry and Cashew Nut Butter Balls

There is a high chance you would have seen the bright yellow packaging in many supermarkets across the UK but if you are not entirely sure what they sell, we introduce you to Hippeas.
Originally geared towards those who are vegan, these chickpea-based crisps are the perfect snack to take to work or to munch on over the weekend. Oh, they are organic too!
Recommendations: Hippeas Bohemian Barbecue or Hippeas Vegan White Cheddar
Rule of Crumb
Suitable for: wheat-free, gluten-free
We have covered the snacks and drinks but what about wholesome meals? All bases are covered with gluten-free brand Rule of Crumb.
Founders of the brand, Colum McLornan and Claire Hunter, appeared on BBC programme Dragon’s Den seeking an investment. Though they were offered a lump sum of money, they left empty-handed. It is not all bad news though – they have gone from strength to strength since the programme aired in 2015.
Rule of Crumb offer a wide range of gluten-free foods and even have the license symbol from Coeliac UK. They are also proud of their quality, so if you are wary in terms of where your food comes from, you are in safe hands.
Recommendations: Chicken Kievs and Salted Caramel & Chocolate Profiteroles
There are many free-from options available in major UK supermarkets which means that turning free-from during your 12-week elimination diet is becoming easier – and tastier too!
