38-year-old Childminder, Jennifer McAlan, had been suffering from her symptoms for a number of years before she was referred to a bowel clinic for tests. It was after she was tested that Jennifer was actually diagnosed as having slow transit constipation. Her symptoms include bloating, stomach pains and headaches as well as feeling lethargic and fatigued.

When asked how her symptoms affected her day-today life, Jennifer explained: “I was lethargic and struggling to stay awake after a day at work. As my symptoms were unpredictable and caused pain and discomfort, I limited going out, especially on social occasions as I never felt comfortable. I was frustrated and struggled with low mood, as I always felt unwell”.

Jennifer had tried visiting the specialist bowel clinic as well as her GP, both of which were unsuccessful in getting to the root of the problem. This included different diets as well as consultations and medication, but Jennifer was still suffering from her symptoms.

After trying different methods without any luck, Jennifer searched online and began researching different companies that offer food intolerance tests. Jennifer told us that YorkTest stood out: “After searching online and looking at various companies and the tests they offer. The reviews I read, and the aftercare offered by York Test appealed to me the most”.

This is when Jennifer decided to take The Premium Food Intolerance Test, which discovered that her body was actually reacting with yeast, pinot grigio and coffee. Jennifer found a number of these results surprising, including pinot grigio as it is one of her favourite wines.

When asked how she felt once she had removed her trigger foods, Jennifer was overwhelmed by the change: “Removing these and dramatically limiting these foods has changed my life. I feel healthier and even after a short amount of time, I feel really well for the first time in so long. I have energy and no longer have headaches as regularly”.

“I have been able to continue my personal training sessions with excellent results. I am more social and making more of an effort to go out. I have been able to dramatically reduce the amount of medication I was taking. I am much happier too and have so much more confidence”.

The Premium Food Intolerance* Test analyses your IgG reactions to over 200 food and drinks – from common ingredients like Cow’s Milk, Gluten and Egg, to health superfoods like kale and quinoa.

The process, which involves sending a finger-prick blood sample back to YorkTest, revealed which foods Jennifer was reacting to in an easy-to-understand traffic light format, clearly indicating which foods were highly reactive and which were just slightly reactive.

When asked about her experience with the free 30-minute consultation: Jennifer said: “The consultation was invaluable. I was feeling overwhelmed and poorly after eliminating foods from my diet. The nutritionist was able to recommend different vitamins and supplements to take that will help heal my gut. I got recommendations on different foods I could have and additions to my diet that may help. I felt the nutritionist was informative and understood my symptoms.”.

We asked Jennifer if she could sum up how she felt now in a short sentence, she told us: “I am enjoying how much happier and confident I feel, this test has changed my life”.
