Susannah

Symptoms: fatigue, headaches, bloating

Food Reactions: grape, cow's milk

For part time accountant and mum of three Susannah, tiredness just seemed to be a way of life. But when headaches, bloating and weight gain started to creep in, she decided to seek help from YorkTest, with fantastic results.

Susannah, tell us how you were feeling before you came to us.

“I had bloating, pain and weight gain – despite having always been slim for most of my life. I also had headaches and tiredness.”

How did your symptoms affect your day-to-day life?

“I initially put it down to having had three children and the normal “ageing” process. However, I did not want to just accept the situation, I wanted to do something about it. I was tired of flagging during the day. Even my exercise classes were impacted by a lack of energy.”

What made you decide to try YorkTest?

“A friend and neighbour of mine had had similar symptoms and recommended the test to me. Talking to him made me realise that I do not have to resign myself to the bloating, pain and weight gain.”

What food and drink ingredients are you intolerant* to? And were you surprised?

“It turned out that I am intolerant to gluten and certain wines, which I expected, and also cow’s milk, which I did not expect.”

Once you cut out your trigger foods, how did you feel? And how long did it take for you to feel these changes?

“The symptoms cleared up once I eliminated the foods I am intolerant* to. I was pleased with the results. It’s great as I feel like I am back in control of me again.”

Are you still following your diet plan? What happens if you eat trigger foods?

“Yes I follow the diet pretty rigorously. I occasionally have dairy produce but only in small amounts, and I am aware there is a limit to how much of it I can eat. I have embraced free-from products. It is not difficult these days to change and adapt to one’s diet. There are loads of really useful websites available.”

Are you pleased with the YorkTest? What is the biggest change in your life?

I am pleased with the results. The process is very straight-forward and the staff are friendly and helpful. The nutritional consultation was really useful.

YorkTest advises that you consult with your GP first if you are experiencing the types of symptoms mentioned in this testimonial.

My life revolved around my stomach – I’d wake up every night in searing pain with the concern deep down that something was wrong with me. I couldn’t go to lectures or do anything social, and I was largely a recluse, doing my uni work from my own bed. It wasn’t the life I wanted to lead.
