Why should I take a food intolerance test?
According to research carried out by Allergy UK, it is thought that up to 45% of the UK population has some kind of food sensitivity or food intolerance.
Whilst these reactions are not as severe as food allergy symptoms, food intolerance has been associated with a wide range of disruptive conditions. Do I have a food intolerance or food allergy?
Food Allergy and Intolerance Testing are two totally different things. A true food allergy causes an immune system reaction that affects numerous organs in the body. A food allergy test can identify a range of food allergy symptoms and in some cases, an allergic food reaction can be severe or life-threatening. In contrast, food intolerance symptoms are generally less serious and often limited to digestive problems. Common food intolerances include gluten intolerance, wheat intolerance, dairy intolerance, egg intolerance and yeast intolerance.
What causes food intolerance or food sensitivity?
When food particles enter the bloodstream, the immune system can sometimes recognise these food protein particles as “foreign” and produces IgG antibodies to “attack” the food in question. This response is your immune system’s natural defence mechanism to ward off harmful invaders in the body which can create inflammation. Our test for intolerances identifies your trigger foods.
This inflammation could trigger bothersome symptoms, which may persist or develop in the body if they are neglected. Imagine if you stopped brushing your teeth twice a day. The more foods and drinks you consume, the more bacteria lands on your teeth. Through this neglection, over time you may see a build-up of plaque, bad breath and discolouration which may lead to problems, such as tooth decay. Food intolerance or food sensitivity can build up in the same way and could create further problems as the root cause hasn’t been addressed.
