Since 1982
Intolerance, Allergy and Health Testing

At YorkTest, every sample is handled with the utmost care and precision. Your test is checked at multiple key stages throughout the laboratory process before your final results are released. Our equipment is regularly calibrated and rigorously maintained to ensure optimal accuracy, and our scientists thoroughly review each result, only releasing them when we’re completely confident that every detail has been verified.
We integrate the latest laboratory information technology to support this process, helping to deliver the most accurate results possible to support your diagnosis and personalised aftercare.
All food intolerance*, allergy, and health tests are carried out by trained, qualified scientists at our in-house YorkTest laboratory. For certain health tests, we work with carefully selected, accredited laboratory partners. At every stage, your sample is anonymised using a unique reference number, ensuring complete confidentiality while enabling secure tracking throughout the testing journey.
Our Journey in Health Optimisation
Our History

1982 – Founded at The University of York
YorkTest began its journey in 1982 on the campus of the renowned University of York – an institution known for its excellence in health and wellbeing research. Surrounded by innovation, we laid the foundations for what would become decades of groundbreaking work in the field of food intolerance and health testing. During these early years, we conducted leading research and fine-tuned our health and wellbeing expertise.
2007 – Published Hardman and Hart Study
In 2007, we reached a major milestone with the publication of the Hardman & Hart study, developed in partnership with the University of York. This pioneering research explored the role of food-specific IgG antibody testing in guiding elimination diets for individuals with chronic symptoms. The results were groundbreaking, showing that removing IgG-reactive foods could significantly reduce symptoms, with those symptoms often returning when the foods were reintroduced. It was a pivotal moment that helped shape the future of our testing services.
2018 – Expanding our Laboratory
As our business continued to grow, we moved into purpose-built offices at Monks Cross in 2018. This move allowed us to increase our testing capacity, expand our reach, and invest in new technologies – all while staying true to our York roots. York isn’t just where we started: it’s part of our identity. It’s why we’re proud to have it in our name – YorkTest – and to continue calling this wonderful city our home..
2025 – Launched A German Language Site
Our history is still being written. In 2025, we took another exciting step by launching a German-language website to better serve our growing customer base in Germany. This expansion reflects the increasing demand for our services across Europe, and we’re proud to be making YorkTest accessible to more people than ever before.

Ongoing Support Beyond Your Results
Your journey doesn’t end with your results. Every YorkTest customer receives detailed support information designed to encourage meaningful steps toward better health and wellbeing.
If you’ve taken a food and drink-specific IgG test, you’ll also benefit from a one-to-one consultation with a qualified Nutritional Therapist. This personalised session is tailored to your unique results, helping you make informed dietary changes with expert guidance every step of the way.
*While food intolerance tests aren’t designed to provide a formal medical diagnosis, they can be an incredibly helpful tool for understanding how your body responds to certain foods. Our tests are backed by decades of research and are designed to guide elimination diets by highlighting potential trigger foods. Many customers find that removing these foods leads to noticeable improvements in symptoms and overall well-being, helping them take control of their health and feel their best.
