Keely BaileySymptoms: nausea, IBS Food Reactions: yeast, shellfish
“My life has changed so much! I can finally plan meals out and feel normal. YorkTest has changed my life!
- Keely suffered from a range of severe symptoms, which were making her life a struggle
- She strongly suspected that food was the cause
- She sought advice from her GP who ruled out a food allergy
- It wasn’t until her mother recommended YorkTest that Keely decided to research more around food intolerance†
- Her test revealed that she was intolerant to cow’s milk, yeast and shellfish
- Removing these from her diet, Keely felt the benefits “straight away”
A range of severe symptoms had been having a huge impact on Keely’s life for over a year, before she discovered YorkTest.
The coffee shop manager from Ashton-In-Makerfield struggled with sickness, constipation, diarrhoea, extreme abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness and even trouble breathing on occasions.
“I could never predict when I was going to be ill,” said Keely, 29. “I just had these bouts of illness. I would feel poorly for 24 hours and then have a delicate stomach for a few days.”
“I felt like I just couldn’t eat anymore because I didn’t want to have a reaction. I didn’t want to go out for tea either.”
Keely strongly suspected that the foods she was eating were causing her symptoms and so asked her doctor for an allergy test.
“The results of the test concluded that I did not have any food allergies,” recalls Keely. “But the doctor was worried about all of my symptoms and explained that I might have had a false negative. He suspected that I was reacting to dairy and advised me not to have it.”
“He tried to get me an Epipen but the application was refused. He then said he would be in touch again but I haven’t heard from him since.”
It was around this time that Keely’s mother recommended YorkTest to her. Whilst her test results from the doctors suggested that she had no food allergies, there was still a chance that she had a food intolerance† . Though allergy and intolerance are often used interchangeably in conversations, the biological processes behind the two are in fact very different. You can find more on the difference between food allergy and food intolerance here.
YorkTest’s food intolerance testing involves sending a finger-prick blood sample to the company’s laboratory to test IgG antibody reactions. Keely took a FirstStep test, which confirmed that she had a food intolerance. After upgrading to an IBS Diet programme, her sample was then tested for 158 food and drink ingredients with the colour-coded results (red for reaction, amber for borderline and green meaning no reaction) identifying the ‘trigger’ foods and degree of intolerance.
Keely’s results revealed that she was intolerant to cow’s milk, yeast and shellfish.
“YorkTest proved that my suspicions were true!” She said, “I was reacting to dairy.”
Using both her results and the comprehensive support materials she had been sent by YorkTest, Keely adapted her own elimination diet plan to cut out the trigger foods her test had highlighted.
She felt the benefits of the diet “straight away”.
“Once I removed dairy, yeast and shellfish out of my diet, I felt like I could enjoy my life again!”
Although cutting out the foods was difficult, she knew that it is well worth the effort in order to feel better.
“It is hard to this day avoiding these things. You feel like you are missing out on the foods that other people are eating. You know how good they taste but it’s well worth giving them up in order to enjoy a normal, healthy life. I’d do anything for that.”
“My life has changed so much! I can finally plan meals out and feel normal. YorkTest has changed my life! It is the best thing that has happened to me.”
