Q. How long has YorkTest been operating?
A. YorkTest has been conducting health screening services for over 30 years.
Q. Where are you based?
A. We are based on the York Science Park in York.
Q. Where can I find out about your tests?

Q. Are your tests available on the NHS?
A. No, our tests are not available on the NHS. Some health insurance providers do cover the cost of
some of our tests - if you have such a policy your insurance provider will be able to tell you if a test
is covered.
Q. Do I need to visit you in York?
A. No, YorkTest offers a complete home-to-laboratory service for all its tests and programmes.
Your kit is sent to you by post with a return envelope included. Once your sample has been
tested your results pack is then sent to you by post. Finally with all our food and drink intolerance
programmes and Gut Health Test your inclusive nutritionist consultation is carried out over the
phone. So from start to finish the entire process is carried out from the comfort of your own home.

Age Limits

Q. What is the lower age limit for taking one of your tests?
A. To take the First Step Test and FoodScan test, the test user must be over 2 years old. For all other tests you must be over 18 years old

Q. Are all your tests available to me if I live outside the UK and the Republic Ireland?
A. All food and drink intolerance tests are available globally. However, all other testing services are only available in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Q. If I’ve ordered outside the UK and Ireland how long will it take to receive my test kit?
A. It should take 10 working days to receive your kit.

Medication

Q. I’m taking medication, will this affect my eligibility to take a test?
A. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you cannot take any of our tests.
If you are taking steroids or immunosuppresants you cannot take any of our food and drink intolerance programmes.

Nutritional Consultations

Q. Which of your tests include nutritionist consultations?
A. The nutritionist consultation service is exclusive to the FoodScan Food Intolerance Programme and Food&DrinkScan Food and Drink Intolerance Programme and the Gut Health Test.

Buying Online

Returns Policy

At YorkTest we want you to be completely satisfied every time you shop with us. If for any reason you are unhappy with the Test(s) you have purchased or you simply do not want to proceed with the Test(s) just return your Test(s) to us in its original condition within 30 days of delivery of the Test(s) and we will issue a refund of monies paid less a handling charge of £4.95. This does not affect your statutory rights. To make a return please send the Test(s) securely (and individually) packaged and postage-paid to the address below:

Test Samples

Q. Do the finger prick blood tests hurt?
A. All our tests have been designed with your comfort and convenience in mind. YorkTest’s finger prick blood sampling is much less painful than taking a full blood draw and full instructions are provided to ensure sample taking is as quick and convenient as possible. However if you are concerned a member of the YorkTest Customer Care Team will be happy to advise on the best way to take your sample.

Q. Where do you conduct the analysis? 
A. YorkTest operates a state-of-the-art laboratory on York Science Park which utilises the very latest biotechnology testing facilities. 

Q. What is the best technique for taking a good blood sample? 
A. Before taking your sample run warm water over your hand to encourage blood flow, please ensure you dry your hands before taking your sample. Use your index finger, stand upright and press your finger to apply pressure. 

Q. My child is taking the test and I am struggling to take a sample – what can you recommend?
A. With children it can sometimes be easier and more comfortable taking the sample from the heel of their foot if it is difficult to use their index finger.

Q. What do you do with my blood sample after it has been used?
A. All samples are destroyed after testing.

Q. Can the lancet be used on other parts of the body other than my index finger?
A. Although the index finger is recommended, it can also be used on the heel of your foot.

Q. Do I have to visit my doctor to take the blood sample?
A. No, the collection of our test samples can be completed by yourself in the comfort of your own home.
