First Step Test

A basic pre-screen, ideal for anyone wanting to find out if an IgG food reaction is present before choosing the in-depth YorkTest Programme.

The First Step Test is a pre-screen to determine whether IgG antibody reactions to foods are detected or not.  The test is ideal for anyone interested in the YorkTest Food Intolerance Programme but who would like to know whether an IgG antibody food reaction is present in their blood before deciding whether or not to proceed to the comprehensive second stage of the programme.

The second stage includes analysis of IgG antibody reactions to 113 different foods and telephone consultations with a BANT* registered Nutritional Therapist; all for an additional charge of £245.

Once you place an order, your First Step Test kit is posted to you which contains everything you need to take your own 2-3 drop blood sample in the comfort of your home.  Once you have taken your sample, it is returned in the pre-paid envelope provided (UK only) to our laboratories for analysis. Your results are then posted to you within ten working days.

Taking the First Step Test

Your First Step Test kit will contain everything you need to take the test in four easy steps:
Fill in the enclosed customer details form and write your name and date clearly on the side of the wand container with the pen provided.
Hold the plastic wand by the plastic cover against the blood droplet and allow it to be soaked up. Once the wand is completely red it will mean there is enough blood to test.

Place the lancet on the side of your finger or thumb and press down quickly. Massage the finger until there is a large droplet of blood.

Immediately place the full wand and used lancet inside the kit box. Take your completed customer details form and kit box, and place in the pre-paid envelope provided.

Important Information

Do not take this test if you are:

  • Suffering from a blood borne disease such as Hepatitis or HIV
  • Under 2 years old
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Taking steroids or immunosuppressants
Please note: Raised levels of food-specific IgG antibodies within your blood indicate that an IgG antibody reaction to a particular food or foods has occurred.  If you have already taken the decision to eliminate a particular food or foods from your diet they may not show up as a reaction on your results. If you know of foods that trigger your symptoms then do not start eating them. We cannot encourage you to eat a food or foods which you already know are a problem to you.

First Step Test Results

The First Step result will tell you whether IgG antibody reactions to foods are detected or not.  The results are sent within ten working days of receiving your blood sample.  If a reaction is present, you can choose to progress to the full FoodScan 113 Food Intolerance Programme.
