Munchy seeds on trial

20 people, 12 thumbs up, 6 wavering, 2 thumbs down.
As we at YorkTest know, one problem for our customers facing a Food Intolerance or Food Allergy is finding healthy and tasty snack foods to stave away those enticing things we know are bad for us.  So we have road tested one product that aims to provide you with a healthy snack that can push those cravings away.  Ideal for coeliacs, people with diabetes, vegetarians, vegans and those concerned with their health and nutrition,  Munchy Seeds are made from a selection of seeds, including sunflower, sesame and pumpkin, which are mixed with a sauce and roasted, and are available in snack sized sachets and handy tubs.

The range, which now extends to seven flavours – original, pumpkin, naked seed, Cajun, omega, chilli and vanilla – is sold in 200g, 500g, 1kg and 6kg tubs and in 25kg sacks, and can be used as an ingredient in salads and breads, as well as in other recipes. The company has recently introduced 30g sachets as a healthy lunch box-sized nibble, a great way of keeping kids away from the snack machines!  We road tested the original mix to see what the reactions were, with a highly scientific survey. (Well, we asked the various YorkTest staff.)

Overall, the verdict seemed to be very favourable!  Of the 20 people in the YorkTest office, twelve gave it a resounding ‘thumbs up,’ with comments ranging from it being very tasty, very munchable, and one member of staff saying that whilst it had a distinct aroma not unlike bird food, it had a very pleasant and more-ish taste, like dry roasted peanuts.  6 more people were sat firmly on the fence, with one saying that whilst it tasted ok, it wasn’t something they would choose to eat.  Two of our staff said that they didn’t like it, with one saying that the taste wasn’t in any way in tune with his own.

But what of the other benefits?  Munchy Seeds are naturally high in Iron, Vitamin E and Zinc.  For those intolerant to foods, these contain no gluten or cholesterol and are nut free; and are rich in protein and low in carbohydrates.  They are only unsuitable to those intolerant or allergic to Soyabeans & Sesame Seeds, and are also a good source of zinc and iron, as well as being suitable for both vegans and vegetarians.

So there you go!  Whilst Munchy Seeds are certainly not to everyone’s taste, they certainly won over a large portion of the YorkTest office.  If you would like to find out for yourself, Munchy Seeds are available from a number of heath food stores, as well as selected Tesco and Top Shop stores, and from their website, www.munchyfoods.co.uk, which also has some handy recipes!
